William May

Award winning Brooklyn--­born producer, director and composer William H. May was the creative genius behind the globally acclaimed stage shows “Walking with Dinosaurs-­The Live Experience”, “The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe, and prior to this, at just 28, William (Billy) became the youngest Producer on Broadway with his musical, “Marilyn – An American Fable.”

Billy believed, "If you can dream it, you can achieve it”.

Billy sadly and unexpectedly left our world on December 31st, 2009 due to illness.

TLC for kids & Billy

In 2003, Billy saw the work TLC for kids was doing, and he took the organisation under his wing. Billy staged TLC’s first ever Gala Ball at his renowned Kensington venue, Number 12, and on numerous occasions held events for kids brought in from hospitals around Melbourne. Billy also attended many hospital based Christmas parties as, none other than, Santa Claus, amazing kids with his extraverted dramatizations and his magically animated personality.

Billy’s Wish

It was undoubtedly William’s extraordinary childlike creativity that afforded him a rare empathy for sick children, and the ability to capture their imagination with his amazing stage shows, props and sets. Billy possessed a precious gift – an unbridled and almost indescribable sense of possibility and creative wonderment, and to go with it, a heart of gold. He had achieved phenomenal success in his career, and yet his values were in perfect moral order. His gravity was helping sick kids; his sense of duty to do this was something he could not, and would not, ignore.

The William May Fund

We are now continuing Billy’s wish by starting a fund in his name. The proceeds of the William H. May Fund will go towards putting on Christmas parties in the many hospitals where children’s spirits need lifting form the depression they may experience through spending the holiday season away from their homes, family and friends. Any excess funds received each year will be used to deliver our RAPID TLC service to children and
families doing it tough in hospital.

It is an honour to continue Billy’s legacy in a way we know he would be truly fulfilled by.
