Marawalk 2012 exceeded all expectations, and the feedback from walkers and supporters alike has been nothing short of outstanding!

The now famous Marawalk has transformed from what was initially meant to be a media stunt in 2010 – ‘CEO walks the walk for sick kids,’ walking 42kms with celebrity PT, Grace McClure. The event raised an encouraging $31,000.

In 2011, we invited companies to sponsor a kilometer, picking up participants along the way and coursing the inner city course on a scorching 33 degree Melbourne day. We had approximately 100 walkers and raised $41,000.

This time around, we made the decision to switch to online fundraising, with 42 walkers (the event was capped at 42) reaching out to their networks for personal sponsorship and really getting some healthy competition going. Walkers were inspired by TLC kid and brave CF sufferer, Jesse Loschiavo (age 10), who insisted on participating in the challenge and would not take no for an answer!

The sponsorship started pouring in, and soon the event was rivalling some of TLC’s major fundraisers. Marawalk 2012 raised an astonishing $61,000. We would also like to make special mention of Dean Mighell from the ETU (Electrical Trades Union) Victoria Branch, who personally raised just short of $10,000 – what a phenomenal contribution!

All walkers enjoyed the inspiring day, and we were joined by well known Australian marathoners, Tristan Miller and Samantha Gash.

2013’s Marawalk is pencilled in for October, again with very limited spots available. Put your name down ahead of time to ensure you don’t miss out!
