A Day in the Life – Shane McCarter

This is the first of a series of features we’ll be doing on our amazing TLC for Kids staff.

Since we’re nearing the end of Tracky Dack Day month, we thought we would start with our newest addition to the team – Shane McCarter. Shane is now our main Fundraising & Events man, but we’ve known him for many years. We met Shane when he was very young, as he has Cystic Fibrosis…in fact, he was the very first TLC for Kids kid! You might even recognise him from Tim’s Australian of the Year Local Hero Video.

We asked Shane some key questions:

1. How do you start your day at TLC for Kids? By saying hello and having a quick chat to all the great people I work with!

2. What is one of the main things you are working on today? Today has been another busy day working on Tracky Dack Day – we had 7 registrations overnight and this morning, so I’ve been putting packs together and sending them out. Also sending out email communications and making calls for another TLC for Kids event, The Dinner, which is coming up in June.

3. What do you enjoy the most about your job? Being able to give back to an organisation that has given me so much over the years is definitely one of the parts I enjoy most about working at TLC for Kids.

4. What do you like doing outside of work? I like watching sport (footy and cricket are my two favs!), spending time with friends and binge-watching shows on Netflix!

5. What is the one thing that TLC for Kids does that you would like others to know about? I’d love for people to know EVERYTHING about what TLC for Kids does, but if I had to choose one aspect it would be the little things. Having that personal touch for families or sick kids in need makes such a big difference. It gives people a reason to smile.
Thanks Shane! Stay tuned for more in our ‘A Day in the Life’ series.
Also, if you’re reading this in May, it’s not too late to Dack Up & Donate for Tracky Dack Day
