How Noah Became the TLC Ambulance in South Australia

There are moments when the smallest actions create the most profound impact. These ripple through a person, their family, and everyone around them, leaving a legacy that transcends time. One such moment was when Noah, a vibrant 6-year-old, inspired “NOAH,” the TLC Ambulance now operates in South Australia. His story of joy, love, and strength has left an indelible mark, creating precious moments for sick children and their families that will resonate for generations. Noah’s story is a testament to the power of inspiration, showing how a single individual can spark a movement of love and compassion.

In 2019, the TLC Ambulance began its heartfelt mission, delivering special moments to children in palliative care across Victoria. These children, many facing the end of their journey, were transported to the places that meant the most to them—the beach, a zoo, or simply a favourite park. Every trip captured the essence of their joy, creating a lasting memory for their families. It wasn’t just a ride but an opportunity to experience one last piece of normalcy, happiness, and connection. The TLC Ambulance’s work has brought immeasurable comfort and joy to these children and their families, providing a much-needed respite from their daily struggles.

The inspiration for the TLC Ambulance came from a conversation with Jemima, a TLC Mum and an Ambulance Victoria paramedic, who had experienced the unimaginable loss of her child to terminal illness. Jemima’s insights, both as a professional and as a mother, helped shape the service to ensure it filled a crucial gap for these families. Since its inception, the TLC Ambulance has countless memorable trips for kids in palliative care and their families. Each trip is a reminder of the preciousness of time, life, and memories.

How Noah and Jane’s Story Became Part of TLC for Kids

Noah’s story is one of deep love, resilience, and a bond that stretches beyond words. Like many children his age, Noah had a favourite book—Macca the Alpaca. It was a story that sparked his imagination, and he dreamed of meeting an alpaca in real life. One TLC Ambulance trip, we had the privilege of making that dream come true.

Accompanied by his devoted mother, Jane, who had lovingly adopted him from Bali, Noah spent a magical day at Chesterfield Farm surrounded by the animals he adored.

Despite suffering from Niemann-Pick Disease, a rare neurodegenerative disorder, Noah’s spirit remained undimmed. He couldn’t speak, but his laughter, smiles, and the way he interacted with the world said more than words ever could. His deep love for animals, particularly alpacas, and his eclectic taste in music—ranging from Moana soundtracks to pop, R&B, and even rap—showcased a young boy full of life despite the challenges he faced.

The bond between Noah and his mother was beautiful to witness. Every moment they spent together, every laugh, every smile, was a testament to the love they shared.

The TLC Ambulance trips aren’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about creating a day of pure joy. And with this trip, Noah’s family could hold onto forever. Noah’s spirit, his infectious smile, and the light he brought to the world have now become an everlasting part of TLC for Kids’ mission. The TLC Ambulance is not just a means of transportation, but a vehicle that creates lasting memories and brings moments of happiness to children and their families, even in the face of adversity.

NOAH, Immortalised

The decision was evident when it came time to name the new TLC Ambulance in South Australia. Noah’s story was a perfect namesake and transformed the vehicle into a living embodiment of delivering smiles and relief to sick children and their families.

The interior was transformed into a vibrant submarine theme, reflecting Noah’s love for the deep sea and exploration, and giving children a magical experience every time they stepped inside.

But that wasn’t enough. The team wanted to ensure that Noah’s legacy was felt in every detail. So, in a heartfelt moment, Jane was invited to place alpaca stickers inside the ambulance herself, as a tribute to Noah’s love for the gentle animals. These small touches of personalisation made NOAH truly unique. An ambulance that not only serves a practical purpose but also carries a story of love, compassion, and the beauty of life.

Seeing TLC Ambulance NOAH on the road, helping children and families in need, brought tears of joy to everyone involved. For Jane, it was a bittersweet moment—knowing that Noah’s legacy would continue to touch the lives of countless others. For TLC for Kids, it was a reminder of why we do what we do: to create moments that matter, to bring light to families in their darkest hours, and to ensure that every child, no matter their circumstances, can experience the simple joys of life.

A Legacy of Joy and Hope

As NOAH continues its journey across South Australia, it carries with it the children it serves and the spirit of the little boy who loved submarines and alpacas. Each trip it takes is a reminder of Noah’s legacy—a legacy of joy, adventure, and love. In fact, every family that steps into NOAH is stepping into a space filled with hope, comfort, and the knowledge that their child’s happiness matters. Noah’s story continues to inspire and bring joy, ensuring that his legacy lives on in every journey the TLC Ambulance NOAH undertakes.
