Freemasons Victoria supports TLC for kids

TLC for kids is truly appreciative of the support we’ve had from Freemasons over the past 12 months, with $15,000 donated for Tracky Dack Day 2011, and now another $12,000 donated to TLC for kids as a result of active fundraising by the Western District of Melbourne, which was then matched by their Board of Benevolence. Freemasons is very active in the community and their conscious selection and contribution towards causes that are making a huge impact, is to be commended. Thank you Freemasons Victoria!

Freemasons Victoria first came into contact with TLC for Kids in 2011 when the District Coordinator of Western District 117, David Seymour presented CEO and founder Tim Conolan with a cheque for $15,000 from the Freemasons Charitable Foundation. When he learned the extent of the work done by TLC for Kids for children in need of support, David decided to start an appeal to raise money to provide Distraction Boxes to be placed in Hospitals and Medical Centres around Victoria. These boxes are filled with toys to suit all age groups and are intended to “distract” the child from the trauma of medical procedures such as blood tests or transfusions for example. The plan was to raise $10,000 by Easter 2012. “We are a few weeks late”, David said, “but with the assistance of the Board of Benevolence I am delighted to be able to present this cheque for $12,000 to TLC for Kids”.

David explained that the money was raised by the freemasons of the Western District of Melbourne by way of donations and the proceeds from small raffles. Also money was raised by the sale of 2012 District Diaries which show all the Lodge meetings in the District throughout the year. “The District raised $6000 by these means” David said, “and I thank all the members for their efforts. We then applied to our Board of Benevolence to match our efforts on a dollar for dollar basis – which they generously agreed to.”

“This is just one more example of freemasons being involved with the community. Over the past couple of years freemasons in Victoria have raised and distributed over $1.2 million dollars to the victims of the Black Saturday fires; donated $150,000 to provide a full time nurse at the Think Pink drop in centre in Melbourne for two years, just last month provided a new Mercedes Sprinter refrigerated van for the Second Bite charity who rescues and redistributes fresh food for the needy and homeless.”

“To combine our two latest logos, “Our Principles Make A Difference”, and we are “Racing into the Future”.
